Happy Slenderman by Rookie141

Today was the big day. Or, big night. It was Halloween night and it'd be your first of many. You had finally turned seven a few weeks back and it would be the first Halloween you'd (hopefully) remember. You were dressed up as your favorite animal, complete with face paint and a matching candy bag. Sadly, your parents had to work tonight but, they had made plans with your neighbor to take you trick-or-treating with a small group of five other kids. The knocking on your front door made you zoom from your room to your front door. Your mom, being the ghostly woman she was, was already at the front door and was talking with the neighbor and some of the kids. You made your way outside and looked around the neighborhood. You wondered how far your group was going to go. More importantly, you wondered how much candy you were going to get. "Alright children. Ready to go?" asked the gentle voice of the adult female. You nodded excitedly and began to walk down the street with the other kids by your side. You looked around with your (e/c) eyes and stopped walking altogether when you saw a tall, lean man wearing a pitch-black suit and what seemed like a white mask. "(y/n). Are you okay?" one of the young girls asked you. You looked over at her then pointed at the tree where you saw the man standing. "Mon...Ster..." you trailed off as you looked back at the oak tree. The "monster" wasn't there anymore. Your adult companion worriedly glanced at you before she patted your shoulder. "There will be a lot of monsters out tonight (y/n). You should stay close." You hurried after her but looked back at the tree. You could have sworn there was someone there.
An hour into the candy collecting night and you were starting to feel tired. It didn't help that the bag of candy was a few pounds heavy. You decided to sit the next house out and rested on a low brick wall. Your legs throbbed and ached from the continuous walking and standing you've been doing. "Trick-or-treat!" the chorus of kids yelled when they reached the door. How were they not tired? Or cold? A shiver shook your body as the cool night got even colder. You shouldn't have picked out such a thin costume. You tried to warm up your hands by rubbing them together but the night fought back and a breeze passed by you. 'Stupid weather' you thought, rubbing your hands together again and shutting your eyes. You then moved onto warming up your ice-cold ears. A content sigh passed your lips as the heat traveled through you. You opened your eyes and looked up. 'Where... Where are they?' panic took over your body as you looked around. 'No. No. No.' The word was repeated in your head as you forced yourself to stand up. You grunted in slight pain but ignored it as you picked up your candy bag and stumbled through the now barren neighborhood. "Miss Emily?" you asked in a small voice, hoping your neighbor could hear you and come to your rescue. The only respond your little ears got was silence. No. Not silence....... It sounded like.... soft footsteps. Those you would hear from dress shoes. "Miss Emily!" You happily yelled out as you turned around. Nope. That thing was not your neighbor. "Monster" you whispered to yourself as your (e/c) eyes fully got to see the monster. You shook your head slowly, half in confusion, half in fear. He reached out to you, the pale hand going to rest on your (h/c) hair. "No. Stay away." You said, taking steps back. The man drew his hand back and if he could look hurt, he would. "I do not wish to hurt you. I wish to help." The voice was soft and oddly soothing. Still, you kept taking steps back and you were well into the middle of the street.
"Hey little kid." A male voice called to you, slightly slurred. "I can help you find your parents. Why don't you come home with me and I can call them?" Your eyes went from the tall man to the man making his way down the street towards you. He stumbled every few steps before he stopped a few feet away from you. "I have candy at my house. Why don't you come with me?" You didn't have a chance to answer the drunken man as he grabbed your wrist and started to pull you down the street. "Hey. Lemme go. I don't wanna go home with you." You struggled to get your wrist out of the man's grip but he was too strong. A whimper escaped you as your wrist was gripped even tighter. "Let her go." The stern voice commanded and you felt the presence of the creature beside you. The drunken male instantly let your wrist go, his already widened pupils growing as he took in the sight. "Child, close your eyes." Your savior told you and you obeyed, your world turning black as eyelids closed over (e/c) eyes. You heard the start of scream but it was cut off before it could get any louder. A low gurgle was all you could hear for a few seconds before a sickening snap replaced the soft noise. You jumped, your (s/c) skin was covered in goose bumps. A few silent seconds before it was broken by the soothing voice telling you, "You can open your eyes now." You quickly opened your eyes and looked around. " Where's the bad man?" You questioned, looking up into the blank, milky white face. A pale hand pat the top of your head and you immensely enjoyed the warmth. "You don't need to worry about him anymore. He's gone." You smiled up at him and moved closer to him, the heat returning to your body. "Are you cold?" He pressed the back of his hand against your cheek. "Yeah. It's cold out." You responded and you could hear a faint sigh from the tall man. "Do not be freaked out, okay?" You nodded and squeaked when two warm and freakishly long arms slipped under your armpits and lifted you up.
You were pressed up against a warm, soft chest and held there. "What's your name? I'm (f/n) (l/n)." You introduced yourself and waited for a response. "I'm... You can call me Slenderman." he answered and you giggled. "That's a funny name, Mr. Slenderman. But, I like it." You reached up, your curiosity peaking and touched the soft skin. Slenderman turned his head away, not used to the contact and you frowned. "Sorry." you apologized, putting your hand back on your lap. Your curiosity got the better of you again as you asked "What are you?" Slenderman stayed quiet and then answered your question. "I'm not a human. I'm not some man dressed up in a costume. I'm what you called me; a monster." His voice sounded sad and you felt rueful that you called him that. "Sorry I called you a monster. You aren't one. Monsters don't protect little kids like me." You stayed silent as your once cold body became warm again. Slenderman began to walk forward and you looked down at the street. "Where are we going?" you asked, not taking your eyes from the street. You could feel the tall man shrug. "To your home. It's too dangerous for you to be wandering around alone at night." You frowned and reached up to cradle Slenderman's face in your hands. "It's not dangerous when I have you protecting me. You're like a guardian angel. My protector." You smiled up at him and he let out a small squeak which caused you to tilt your head up at him. "You okay Mr. Man?" Slenderman nodded. He wasn't going to tell you that he thought what you told him was purely adorable and sweet. "I'm fine. Just uh...." He trailed off, trying to think of an excuse. "Is the cold getting to you too?" You patted his face. Slendy quickly nodded and walked towards your house. "Wait. How do you know where I live?" You shivered a little, feeling just a little creeped out. "I wanted to make sure you kids got a safe Halloween night. You didn't see me standing by the tree across your house?" You zoned out for a moment, trying to remember when you first started trick-or-treating. "Oh yeah! Now I remember. But, I don't wanna go home. I wanna stay with you Slenderman." You looked up at him. He could see the pleading look in your (e/c) eyes and his head turned away. "I... I cant take you. You have to stay with your family. I'll visit you though. I promise." He set you down on the sidewalk by your home and went to go walk away but you reached out, grabbing his pant leg and tugged on it. "Pinkie promise me you'll visit me?" You held up your pinkie and looked up at him hopefully. He squatted down and held out his pinkie, a quiet chuckle shaking his body. "I pinkie promise I will."
